How to become Captain in the Indian Navy:

Recruitment into the Navy is based on the requirement to effectively man all new and existing ships, submarines, aircraft and shore establishments to the optimum levels. look it is not very easy to become Captain in the Navy because this is a very high-Rank position and also with so many responsibilities, this is the fifth rank in the Navy. so there is no direct source to get posted as a Captain, So you will have to go step by step. Now let’s see how many types of entries and exams are there to become Captain in the Indian navy. First, understand the ranks in the Indian Navy. You will join the service as

Sub- Lieutenant > Lieutenant > Lieutenant Commander > Commander >  Captain > Commodore > Rear Admiral > Vice Admiral > Admiral

Top 3 Ways to join Indian Navy after 12th

NDA (National Defence Academy):

One can appear for this entry after passing class 12th. the Selection is Written Exam. After you clear the written exam you will get a call for the SSB interview, which is 5 days long interview (one of the toughest interviews in India at the 10+2 level) after that you have to go through medical. Once you clear all this, there would be AIR (All India Merit) list which is mandatory to clear, around 300-400 seats are there in NDA and only 15% -20% of seats are for the Indian Navy and the rest of the seats are for Army and Air Force. So you will have to score good to get Navy. total marks 1800 which 900 for the written exam and the other 900 for the SSB interview.

If you clear this all you will have your training in  National Defence Academy for 3 years and Indian Naval Academy for 2 years. After successful completion, you will be posted as an officer. This entry is one of the finest entries to become captain in the Indian Navy. Here are the complete required criteria that one needs to have:

  • Candidate must have physics and mathematics in 10+2.
  • If you are in class 12th. Then too you can apply.
  • Candidate must have 60% marks in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) on the 12th board.
  • The age of the candidates must be between 16.5 to 19 yrs old.
  • There is no relaxation that has been given to any caste or any religion.
  • The age limit is same for the all the categories.
  • Candidate height must be 157cm or more than that.
  • Chest expansion should be 5cm or more than that.

This is the defence and you are applying for the post of officer. There are many Physical standards for this. I have shared a few that are very common but can be a good reason for rejection. if you have an aim to join the Indian Armed forces. You will need to be physically and medically fit all the time. CDSE (Combined Defence Service Examination):

This process is also the same as it is in the NDA,  but you can appear for this exam after graduation, once you are graduate in any stream with having mathematics and physics in your 10+2 you are eligible to apply, the age limit for this exam is 19yrs to 24yrs old. But the difference is, your training duration would be for 2yrs or 3yrs only.  Here are the details about the required eligibility criteria:

  • Candidate must have physics and mathematics at 10+2.
  • The candidate must have a graduation degree in any discipline.
  • You can apply for the CDS examination only after graduation.
  • If a candidate is in the final year of his graduation can also apply for this.
  • The candidate must have at least 60% marks in his graduation.

Which is better Entry NDA or CDS?

NCC Special Entry Scheme to become Captain in Indian Navy:

University graduates possessing NCC ‘C’ certificate with minimum ‘B’ grading and 50% marks in the graduation degree examination are eligible to apply in the Navy as regular commissioned officers. These graduates will not have to appear in the written exams and are selected through the SSB interview only. They join the Indian Naval Academy for Naval Orientation Course (NOC) along with the CDSE cadets. There are so many other Branches in the Indian Navy by joining them you can become an Officer.
